Prague
Miraculously spared from the ravages of war and, so far, from industrial development. Home to an extraordinarily rich architectural heritage covering every period from the Middle Ages. Since the Velvet Revolution in 1989, Prague has recaptured its old vibrancy. The city's historic heart is the very small area of the Old Town a network of winding streets, and where the splendidly renovated 18th century Theatre of the Estates stands. It was here that Mozart gave his first performance of Don Giovanni in 1787. Prague lies in the shadow of the Castle District - this fortress a political and religious symbol including the Royal Palace and St. Vitus cathedral. The Old-New Synagogue in Josefov and the very moving Jewish cemetery. Stunning city.
